New Business Cards from Moo.com
Published on:
I’ve ordered 50 copies of both of my exisitng business cards from Moo.com, after they proved their excellence twice in the last year for some clients. With my new design coming at the end of September, I thought that I would forgo my ususal order of 1 business and 1 mini-card, and instead upgraded the 80s version to a full sized card.
Below are the thumbnails of the cards, and i’ll post the pictures whenever they arrive.

EDIT: Oh Dear!
Both sets of business cards arrive yesterday, which was a little quicker than I’d expected. Moo.com’s email system “Little Moo” was brilliant at keeping me posted at each stage of the process. Not too many emails to be considered spam, and not the sparse/useless advertising that we’re sadly used to – it was exactly as one would expect from a company who’s web reputation goes before it. Sadly, the same can’t be said for the cards themselves…
The cut of the cards were the first thing to catch my eye. The top and left sliced appears to be at a slight angle, and I do mean slight, but the white of the card is very obvious against the black of my design. It gives the impression of a white border or that the bleed wasn’t taken into consideration (which it was). More so though, it just looks a little weird.
From there, I noticed that the background image itself (the same one as from this website) was almost entirely matt black. As you can see from the images above, the gradient takes over half the distance to hit it’s baseline, while unfortunately on both sets of cards the gradient is barely noticable, and when you can see it (in direct light) it is fully faded with the first 10% of the card.
Resulting from that, the text looks a bit weird. I understand that very few people like this particular design of my website, but I’ve always thought that the contrast somehow worked. This is something I don’t feel with a matt black background, where the text looks random and out of place, not to mention out of contrast with the rest of the card.
Fundamentally though, i’m not too happy about my branding being messed with, even un-intentionally. Whatever the opinion of my website or design is, if I send the images above to the printer, I expect to recieve the images above back from the printer. In this instance Moo.com hasn’t come through.
I’ve heard wonderful things about their customer service, so I’ll take a day or two to think about the next step. Maybe I should just accept this as one of these things or maybe I’ll ask them for some feedback. Life after all, is too short to be worrying about things such as business cards!
