Take the 'sport' out of the sport and you are, indeed, left with WWF, Kevin.
No offense to WWF.

Thanks for making this post Kevin it has been very informative and goes a long way to alleviating some of my initial concerns surrounding technical development for the Android platform. As I work as a lone developer however my resources are limited for support over so many possible devices which to be honest remains my main concern. I still feel the Android platform is somewhat fragmented and the multitude of device specifications and hardware available on the market has the potential to cause me some headaches.

The latest (as yet unreleased) app I have been working on for iOS as an example is a live performance music step sequencer which can use a fair amount of device resources depending on how many sequenced tracks / instruments / samples are used or activated at the same time. With Android I feel that the possible number of hardware options on phones and tablets could cause me real headaches if released on that platform due to there being so many different hardware specifications.

With iPhone and iPad I know the processor/ gpu specs and feel more comfortable / confident when quoting what and app can or cannot do or cannot do due to their being so little hardware choices with each occuring generation of apple device having the same hardware specs.

With the current multitude of Android powered devices on the market having so many different hardware specs I do not yet feel confident enough to say this app for example would work as intended or to a satisfactory standard over all of them.

This is not to say in the future that I will never consider Android development but for now I don’t think that it’s something I can attempt without getting some backlash, bad reviews from customers.
